Apolipoprotein B (ApoB)

Apolipoprotein B (apoB) reflects the total number of atherogenic lipoprotein particles in circulation, including LDL, VLDL, IDL, and Lp(a), with each particle carrying a single apoB molecule. This makes apoB a direct measure of particle number and a more accurate indicator of cardiovascular health. The National Lipid Association recognizes apoB as superior to LDL-C for cardiovascular risk assessment, particularly in the case of discrepancies between cholesterol content and particle concentration. Individuals with high apoB demonstrate lower cardiovascular health than those with similar LDL-C levels but lower apoB measurements. [42] [43]
