Triglycerides
Triglycerides are circulating blood lipids that serve as the body’s primary energy reservoir, stored in fat tissue and mobilized as needed. Elevated levels may indicate insulin resistance or pancreatic dysfunction and have been independently associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes in published literature.[38] [39] Genetic (Mendelian randomization) studies have been used to investigate the role of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. [40] [41] The 2025 AHA/ACC guidelines include elevated triglycerides as a risk-enhancing factor for primary prevention and define hypertriglyceridemia as ≥150 mg/dL.[23] The VMR thresholds reported here are derived from VH statistical models and are not clinical treatment targets.
