HDL Cholesterol
HDL (high-density lipoprotein) Cholesterol represents the cholesterol content within high-density lipoprotein particles. HDL facilitates reverse cholesterol transport, enabling cholesterol removal from tissues and traveling back to the liver for elimination. HDL molecules exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and endothelial protective functions. [37] Our model provides disease specific health multipliers. The ideal HDL levels vary by age and sex, but the VMRs capture the ideal ranges that correlate with the best future health in each health domain. This approach may support stratification for cardiovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory health based on HDL-mediated protective mechanisms.
