Body Mass Index (BMI)
Body Mass Index (BMI) is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (kg/m^2) and serves as a screening tool to categorize weight status. BMI does not account for differences in muscle mass, bone density, or body fat distributions. These reference ranges were primarily derived from populations of European descent and may not accurately reflect risk across ethnic groups. [20] [22]
